Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems swept through the region, bringing powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Locals witnessed substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7cm in certain regions. Weather authorities confirmed that various areas across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore electricity service throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units activated to address the widespread outages.

Southern State's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, approximately 1,000 households in the southern state also experienced energy failures after the capital city recorded its most precipitation in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations responded to 598 emergency reports across the area, mostly for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

During the peak on Sunday, in excess of twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were lacking electricity.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the wettest day, with ongoing severe weather risk expected across multiple regions of both regions.

Health officials cautioned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.
