The Journey of a Phenomenon can be characterized by distinct phases.

1. The Core Concept

A dominant personality or leaders present a revolutionary approach offering a panacea for alienated and vulnerable people.

So here we are. Preparations are underway to storm the compound down in Brisbane. The gunships are circling. Conflict emerges from the out-houses. An isolated player, exposed, shivering, the phrase ATTACKING MINDSET smeared across his chest in chicken blood, has come staggering from the field and is removed in secrecy towards an inconclusive loan stint elsewhere.

Remember the early days, when the world was still young? The days of Bazball 1.0, of uninhibited aggression.

2. The Honeymoon Phase

Movement founders offer a fresh beginning, hope for a future, camaraderie, redemption among a group with shared faith in the big idea.

What did it represent at first? Just men on a balcony feeling good. Tattoos. Muscles. Determination. Peak performance vibes. Oh sure, The team insist it’s not a real term, amusingly because if it doesn’t exist, what exactly did I just watch?

Yet it’s clear what it is. It’s the batsman playing a shot so depraved it has to be pixelated. It’s the adrenaline of the leader at his peak, a look that says: thoughtful warrior, beard made of wood, natural look, genuinely raw you almost imagine to notice and find him positioned in the field stripped to the waist embracing nature.

3. A New Life

Growth phase. Togetherness strengthened via memorization of key phrases. These beliefs are often illogical as a loyalty check.

Is it just me? The criticism, the anger, the disappointment post-defeat seems too strong, too much. The batting collapsed on the field, as they often do in Australia. The developments in the last few days are equally notable. Criticism of the approach is now the trend. We have a uniformly angry internet, disappointed commentators, images of frustrated supporters abroad missing out on play, like a room full of timeshare owners seeking justice.

On the other hand, there is the broader context of the opponent’s mixed more culturally hard-wired exasperation towards the unconventional visitors, claiming, your cherished traditions and have fostered and nurtured to distinguish yourselves from the opposition, it’s just a joke after all.

And this is the real point. All movements are similar. The approach was a phenomenon since the sport itself is insular. Or rather, the sport in England is closed, a group, a private event, an insular community with centuries of tradition and mystery defining it. It has long been where entry is limited.
