Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
